What are dentures?
Dentures look so realistic that no one will know you are wearing them and most importantly, they are more comfortable than ever. Dentures are removable prosthetic replacements for missing teeth usually made from special resins and may incorporate metal for additional strength. They can be either complete or partial both of which are specially designed and custom fitted to the individual. Properly made and fitted, dentures can significantly enhance the appearance and function and they are offer a great option for an immediate fix.
The process of making a set of dentures usually requires between 5-7 appointments, involving accurate impression taking, recording of the ‘bite’, trial fitting of the dentures, final insertion and long-term follow-up.
Where a patient cannot have or retain a denture, two or more implants can be used to effectively “anchor” the denture in place. The technique is also useful for the older, toothless patient, where the bone underlying the gums has receded to the extent where the bony ridges are no longer able to support a lower denture.
Today, dentures are made up of different materials such as Chrome and Clip-on dentures (metal framed), and flexible dentures (Valplast). We work with very skilled dental technicians who adopt the latest techniques and innovation.
